VILLAGE OF HANCOCK

PUBLIC NOTICE

TAKE NOTICE that the Village of Hancock has adopted a Local Law entitled: "A LOCAL LAW REQUIRING THE REGISTRATION OF MULTI-UNIT APARTMENTS." Under this Local Law, it is unlawful to occupy or rent to another for occupancy any dwelling unit unless the owner has first obtained a registration certificate.

In order to obtain a registration certificate, the owner of each rented dwelling unit must submit a completed rental registration form, which is available at Village Hall, and pay a $25 application fee. This requirement pertains to both existing and new rental units.

All units were required to be registered within 90 days of the effective date of the Local Law. That time period has now expired. In order to avoid enforcement action, please complete a rental registration form and pay the application fee immediately.

TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that any person who violates this Local Law or fails to comply with any of its requirements shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined no more than $250 or imprisoned for not more than l5 days or both. Each day of noncompliance shall be considered a separate offense.
