Memorial Day Observance Set In Long Eddy

Commander Bruce Pecsi of the Allan Milk Memorial VFW Post 7276 invites all area veterans and the public to their annual Memorial Day Service being held at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Long Eddy on Monday, May 26 at 1 p.m.
  Following the service, all are invited to the Long Eddy Fire House for a free buffet being served by the ladies Auxiliary Post 7276.

Alumni Dinner June 14

The annual Hancock Central School Alumni Association Dinner will be held on June 14, at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Hancock Central School, with a social hour starting at 6:30 p.m.
  This year’s speaker will be Leigh Walker, East Greenbush, NY, a graduate of HCS, Class of 1958.

Ham Dinner Set In Fremont

The Fremont Center Community Church will be serving their Annual Memorial Day Ham Dinner at the Church Hall, Memorial Day, from 11:30 to 2:00.
  Dinner family style with all the trimmings. Adults and take outs $8.00, 5-12 years old $4.50, and under 5 free. Menu, baked ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, string beans, cole slaw, applesauce, rolls, cake and beverage. Come and meet old friends and make some new ones!

American Legion Post 289 To Hold Memorial Day Service

Hancock American Legion Post 289 will hold traditional Memorial Day Services, honoring all veterans from all wars, on Monday, May 26, as follows: 9:00AM East Branch 11:00AM Hancock Central School (at Flagpole Memorial).
  All members of the public are invited to attend these services in honor of those who have given the last full measure of devotion for their country.
  Refreshments will be served at the Hancock American Legion Hall following the 11:00AM Hancock service.

Hancock Spring Festival Features Food, Games, Veterans' Tributes, More

The annual Spring Festival is set for Memorial Day Weekend in Hancock and will have something for everyone!
   The Little Victory Players present "Where is Pollyanna" at 7:30 p.m. at the Old Capitol Theatre. At 7 p.m. they will honor local Civil War hero Wesley Gould, with a local student playing the part of the local man wounded at Antietam.
   On Saturday, May 24, the Spring Festival will be held at the Great American lot in the center of Hancock, and will featrure games, puppet shows, music, crafts, baked goods and the PTO Carnvial from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. At noon, the Hancock Fire Department will hold a chicken barbecue.
   The popular band Cobblestone Crossing will play from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
   At 4 p.m. the Little Victory Players present a tribute to veterans of all wars. From 5-6 p.m., Vietnam era music and pictures will be shown in the main tent. At 6 p.m. a long overdue tribute to local men who fought in Vietnam will be presented with music by the Family School and recognition of the veterans.
   There will be ongoing attractions throughout the day, and everyone is welcome to celebrate Memorial Day weekend in Hancock.

Equinunk Historical Society Memorial Weekend Program.

 The Equinunk Historical Society will present its annual Memorial Day Weekend Program on May 26, at 1.p.m.
  This year, honor will be paid to veteran Albert Lind, former postmaster of Equinunk. After a brief homage to Mr. Lind, attendees will walk a short distance to the Equinunk Cemetery to place Veteran’s Flags on the graves of our heroes. Returning to the Society grounds, participants will enjoy the popular Ice Cream Social. The Museum is now open for the summer season on Wednesdays and Fridays, from 2 – 4 p.m. It is open Saturdays, Memorial Weekend through Columbus Day, 12 – 4 p.m., and on Sundays, in July and August, also 12 to 4. The Calder Shop is open every Saturday, through Columbus Day, some Sundays, and by appointment. Call 570-224-6722 for information.
